THE 1999 FAIR CATALOG

FOREWORD

This year’s Great Frederick Fair promises to be an Ag-Venture with the many facets of the agriculture industry and programs being represented. We’ll provide you with the opportunity to Explore New Horizons in Agriculture that you never dreamed were possible!

Some agriculture exploring highlights for this year’s September 17-25 fair are being offered we know you won’t want to miss:

• Ag-Venture Passport Educational Program

• Agriculture Careers Fair

• Fiber-Optics

• City Streets, Country Roads Agriculture Education Awareness Exhibit

Whether an exhibitor or one of our 250,000 visitors, we hope that you will pick up a copy of the Ag-Venture Passport Educational Program that will take you on a tour of the fair to show how agriculture touches each one of our lives each day in ways that many of us don’t realize. Each page in the 12-page passport has information about a specific agriculture entity; there will be 10 locations on the grounds where fair goers visit, read the related question and find the correct answer about that particular area. At each station, the fair goer is to get the passport validated. Upon completion of all 10 stations, the word AG-VENTURE should be spelled out on the designated page of the passport. The participant is asked to drop off the validated page with the completed name, address and telephone number at the fair’s City Streets, Country Roads Exhibit for a special drawing at the end of the fair.

The Agriculture Careers Fair is also a new feature at this year’s 137th Great Frederick Fair. It will be held from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, in an exhibit area next to the Beef Barns. Here, you will find a wide range of exhibits that show how extensive agriculture is, and the many career paths, whether in computers or pharmaceuticals, it has to offer. The one-day feature promises to be an educational venture for all who visit.

The Great Frederick Fair’s Fiber-Optics Exhibit promises to be another Ag-Venture for fair goers. This first-time exhibit will showcase sheep and wool displays, grand champion 4-H market lamb and the supreme champion ewes and rams. Other educational programs will also be featured in this exhibit housed next to the sheep barns. Be sure to stop by.

The Great Frederick Fair stands proud of the programs and opportunities offered to our youth through the 4-H and FFA organizations. And we are proud of the accomplishments these members make through their trustworthiness, honesty, integrity, promise-keeping, loyalty, respect for others, responsibility, accountability, excellence, self-restraint, fairness, caring and citizenship. That’s why The Great Frederick Fair is proud to support Character Counts! Throughout fair week, you’ll hear us recognize many students during some of our special shows and events who participate in the fair.

The Board of Managers invites you to view the 17,000 plus exhibits displayed at our fair. In 4-H alone, more than 8000 exhibits are on display throughout fair week. And, we hope you will take the time to visit the City Streets, Country Roads Agriculture Educational Exhibit and the cow milking facility.

With this year’s fair set to begin, we are already working on our premier event for the turn of the century. The Great Frederick Fair...One in a Millennium, will be held September 15-23.
