Rules and Regulations:
    1. Entries will be received between 5-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, 1999 and 8 a.m.- 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18.
    2. All entries must be made in the name of the actual producer, properly labeled, designating each variety, and the specific quantity exhibited to obtain premium.
    3. All entries must be grown in Frederick County, except in Section 4.
    4. Exhibitors must purchase a Season Exhibitors’ Pass for $5 with coupons for admission for each day of the fair.
    5. Exhibitors will be allowed six items on one ticket in Sections 2,3,4,5, and 6.
    6. No article in the department will be released to exhibitors before noon Sunday, Sept. 26, and it is desired that all articles be removed that day before 5 p.m. All premiums will be paid in the form of a check which will be mailed after the fair.
    7. All items not picked up within 24 hours after the fair will be disposed of.

POMOLOGICAL DEPARTMENT

BUILDING 14A

Rules and Regulations:
    1. Entries will be received from 5-8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 17 and from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 18.
    2. All entries are limited to Frederick County residents, except Section 1.
    3. Exhibitors must purchase a Season Exhibitors’ Pass for $5.
    4. Exhibitors will not be permitted more than one entry of each variety or kind in any of the classes.
    5. Exhibitors are allowed six items on one ticket in Sections 1-7.
    6. All fruit and nuts will be judged on basis of desirable and standard form, size and color for the variety, also uniformity of form, size, and color of fruits exhibited. Freedom from damage and blemish caused by insects or disease, also condition of fruit will be given high consideration.
    7. Refer to general rules and regulations for additional information.

SECTION 1-HONEY AND BEESWAX

Rules and Regulations:
   1. Displays may include pictures and charts, but not the beekeeper’s equipment, tools, observation hives, bakery products, canned goods or honey in tins. Maximum width of display is five feet.
    2. All honey and beeswax must be the property of the exhibitor and must have been produced by him/her within a 15-month period prior to entry.
    3. All honey exhibited must have been gathered and ripened in a natural wax by honey bees.
    4. No exhibitor’s name or label will be allowed on any entry except Classes 17 &18.
    5. All cut comb honey must be packed in standard clear cut comb boxes, measuring 4 1/8 inches x 4 1/8 inches.
    6. A copy of the judge’s score sheet will be provided for each entry at the close of the exhibition.
    7. Competent judging will be provided. Judges may withhold prizes for insufficient merit and remove from public view any entry or part thereof which, in his/her opinion, discredits the exhibition.
    8. A copy of the Standards for Honey Judging in Maryland will be available upon request.
    9. The exhibitor will select the class. If needed, assistance will be available for selecting the correct class. The superintendent reserves the right to change the class selected, if necessary.
    10. All extracted honey shall receive equal points on color within the class, with exception of "Extra White to Water White," which shall be graded according to color within the class.
    11. Frame of comb honey must be supported vertically in a sealed rigid frame with transparent windows for viewing entire comb portion.
    12. Bee craft includes drawings, paintings, pottery, needlework, batik, photograph, carvings, wax moldings depicting honey bees and beekeeping activities, etc.
    13. All extracted honey entered in Classes 2-5 must be entered in standard one pound queenline or classic jars.
    14. All chunk honey (Class 8) and finely granulated honey (Class 10) must be exhibited in standard one pound round jars.
    15. Pollen will be exhibited in one pound queenline or classic jars. All pollen will be dried.
    16. Gift packs must include in one or more products of the hive, but may also include other items that enhance the appeal or promote the use of hive products. Gift packs should be suitable for personal gift use regardless of commercial applications. The gift pack should be in a box, basket or other suitable container. Labels are permitted in gift packs.

SECTION 8- HOMEMADE WINES

Rules and Regulations:
 
  1. Open only to Frederick County residents.
    2. No commercial wines will be accepted.
    3. Wines will be shown in glass bottles (not jars), 7-64 ounce size. All commercial labels will be removed from bottles. Bottles must be sealed with cork or screw cap.
    4. An exhibitor may enter three wines, but only one wine per class. Judging will be based on appearance, bouquet, taste, aftertaste and overall quality. Judges will be trained and experienced in the field of wines and will be approved by the American Wine Society, Frederick County Chapter.
    5. Meads must be accompanied by a list of ingredients used to make the beverage.
    6. All entries will become the property of The Great Frederick Fair.
    7. Classification of wine types:
        Dry- Less than 1% residual sugar, starting specific gravity <1.100
        Sweet- More than 2% residual sugar; starting specific gravity <1.120
        Rose- Either blend (red & white) or red grape juice with no skin coloring

    3. All labels and writing must be removed from the bottle.
    4. An exhibitor may enter three homebrews, but only one per class, one entry ticket.
    5. Judging will be based on aroma, appearance, flavor, body, drinkability and overall impression.
    6. Judges will be professional brewers and/or AHA/HWBTA approved judges.

    4. Entries on one ticket must be in different classes.
    5. Exhibitors are responsible for correct classification of entries.
    6. Flower arrangements must be restricted to homegrown and/or roadside flowers.
    7. All house plants must have been grown by the exhibitor or in their possession for at least three months.
    8. All cut flowers must be displayed in a container capable of holding water.
    9. No foam containers or foil covered containers may be used.
    10. Hanging baskets must have hooks suitable for hanging.
    11. All plant material must be fresh or dried.
    12. Potted plant containers limited to 12 inches in diameter/length and arrangements not to exceed 28 inches in height.
    13. Entries that do not follow the above rules will not be judged, but will be used as display only.
