Animals will be released at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19

Rules and Regulations:
   
1. Exhibitors will receive 1 vehicle pass for 1-3 paid entries and 2 vehicle passes for 4 or more paid entries, not to exceed two passes per exhibitor. Additional passes may be purchased.
    2. The llama/ alpaca show is open to all exhibitors, irrespective of residence or ALSA membership.
    3. The show will be in accordance with the rules and regulations contained in the tenth edition of the ALSA Handbook.
    4. All llamas entered must be registered with the International Llama Registry (ILR) or the Canadian Livestock Registry Corporation (CLRC), with the exception of non- breeder llamas, youth classes, and llamas in the juvenile age division. All alpacas must be registered with the Alpaca Registry Inc. (ARI) or the CLRC. A copy of the registration form for each llama entered must accompany the entry form.
    5. All entries must be postmarked on or before August 15, 1999.
    6.  Llamas must have been born before April 19, 1999
    7. Alpacas must have been born before March 19, 1999.
    8. All llamas/alpacas under five months of age must be accompanied by their dam.
    9.  There is a $3 ALSA charge for each llama/alpaca entered in the show.
    10. All premiums will be mailed to exhibitors.
    11. Non-ALSA members will be charged a $10 non-member fee. ALSA members must include their ALSA Farm numbers on the entry form. For ALSA points, all llamas that are recorded with ALSA must have their ALSA numbers included on the entry form.
    12. Entry fees are $7 per youth class and $10 per llama or alpaca class. Entry fees must accompany entry form. Youth exhibitors ages 8 through 18 as of January 1 of the calendar year may show in ALSA approved youth classes.
    13. Entries must be made in the name of the owner shown on the registration certificate. "Owner"= "Exhibitor." Handlers may or may not be owners.
    14. No deductions will be made from any premiums awarded.
    15. Health Requirements: Llamas/alpacas originating in Maryland must be accompanied by an approved Certificate of Veterinary Examination.
    16. Out-of-state llamas/alpacas require an approved Certificate of Veterinary Examination signed by an accredited veterinarian. Animals six months of age and over are required to have a negative tuberculosis test within 60 days of the show. Animals shall be individually identified by brand, ear tag, tattoo, microchip, or registration papers.
    17. ALSA members must present their ALSA card with membership number upon arrival at the show.
    18. All display/tack stalls will cost an additional $50.00, paid at time of entry.
    19. "For Sale" signs and gumball feeders are prohibited.

Definition Of Classes:
1. Wool Divisions:
    Light Wool- Minimal body wool, short neck wool with smooth head ears and legs.
    Medium Wool- Moderate to long body wool, minimal to moderate neck wool, smooth to moderate head and leg wool.
    Heavy Wool- Abundant body and neck wool with minimal to abundant head and leg wool (i.e. leg wool at least to knee and hock)
    -All llamas must be entered in the wool division for which they are most appropriate at the time.
    -Shorn llamas must be shown in the wool division which they would have been shown prior to shearing.
    -Shearing used as technique to gain entry to a different wool division is not permissible.

2. Age Divisions:
    Juvenile- 5 to 12 months
    Yearling- 13 to 24 months
    Two Year Olds- 25 to 36 months
    Adults- 37 months and over
    Example: If an animal is born 5/6/96, then on 5/6/97 the animal must be shown in the yearling class. On a llama’s date of birth, the llama moves up to the next older class.

3. Produce of Dam:
    -Each entry must include two offspring by the same dam. The produce may be decided after halter classes, but must be listed with the clerk before this class is held.
    -Produce may be represented by offspring of either sex.
    -All produce must be shown in their appropriate halter class age division.
    -There must be only one entry per dam.
    -The dam will not be shown in this class.
    -If the exhibitor(s) is not the dam’s owner, they must have written permission of the dam’s owner.

4. Get of Sire:
    -Each entry must include three offspring by the same sire. The Get may be decided after the halter classes, but must be listed with the clerk before this class is held.
    -The Get may represent offspring of either sex.
    -The Get must represent offspring by at least two different dams.
    -There must be only one entry per sire.
    -All Gets must first be shown in their appropriate halter class age division.
    -The sire must not be shown in this class.
    -If the exhibitor(s) is not the sire’s owner, they must have written permission from the sire’s owner.

5. Pack Llama Class:
    This class is designed to present or simulate the conditions and obstacles actually encountered when packing llamas on the trail. The Young Pack division of this class is for young pack llamas in training who should not carry full weight because of their physical immaturity.
    -Young Pack- 18 to 36 months
        -All exhibitors must provide their own saddle and panniers, or training pack with two cinches, complete with fill material as specified in Young Pack equipment.
    -Pack Llama- 37 months and over
        1. Llamas must carry at least 40 pounds in the panniers.
        2. Exhibitors must provide a saddle and panniers, suitable for back country use, complete with weight and fill material as per regulations.

6. Obstacle Class:
    The purpose of the obstacle class is to demonstrate the well-trained llama’s obedience and willingness to complete the activities requested by the handler.

7. Public Relations Llama:
    This class is for the llama that participates in community activities, goes to schools, hospitals, service clubs, parades, charity functions, children’s homes, rehabilitation therapy with a variety of patients, T.V. or other media appearances for promotion.

Juvenile: Born September 19, 1998- March 18, 1999.
Yearling & Older: Born before September 18, 1998.
Huacya Full Fleece: Fiber Length: Juveniles must have at least 3 inches. Yearlings and older must have a minimum of 3 inches and no more than 8 inches on the blanket, neck and legs.
Suri Full Fleece: Fiber length: Juveniles and yearlings must have at least 3 inches, two years and older must have at least 3 inches and not more than 14 inches or length to knee at longest point, whichever is greater.
Shorn Alpacas: Uniform staple length not to exceed 3 inches on blanket, neck or legs. Judged 100 percent on conformation.
Non-Breeding Alpaca: Open to all gelded males and non-breeding female alpacas, full fleece, shorn, huacaya or suri.
