Rules and Regulations:
    1. Exhibitors will receive 1 vehicle pass for 1-3 paid entries and 2 vehicle passes for 4 or more paid entries, not to exceed two passes per exhibitor.
    2. The sheep show is open to all, irrespective of residence.
    3. A charge of $2 per animal will be made payable when entry is made.
    4. No deductions will be made from any premiums awarded.
    5. All sheep must be representive of the breed and properly fitted to be shown.
    6. Senior ram and ewe lambs must be born between September 1 and December 31 for all breeds, except Cheviot and Natural Colored, which must be born between September 1 and February 15.
    7. Junior ram and ewe lambs must be born after January 1 for all breeds, except Cheviot and Natural Colored, which must be born after February 16.
    8. Shropshires and Southdowns must be sheared no sooner than 10 days before the show.
    9. All premium checks will be mailed to exhibitors.

Natural Colored
    1. Classes to be the same as the purebred categories.
    2. Sheep must have at least 35 percent colored fleece. No white sheep shown.
    3. Sheep will be judged 60 percent for hand spinning fleece quality, 40 percent body conformation and soundness.
    4. Sheep are not to be washed, clipped or blocked so as not to damage the wool.
    5. Dung locks may be trimmed.

Carcass Contest
 
  1. Open to Frederick County residents only.
    2. Only one entry per exhibitor.
    3. Lambs must be ewe or wether (no ram lambs) born in 1999. Lambs will be mouthed.
    4. Entry fee is $5 per lamb for Frederick County 4-H'ers or members of the Frederick County Sheep Breeders, $10 for non-members, payable with entry.
    5. Lambs must be owned by the exhibitor for at least 60 days prior to the contest.
    6. Lambs will be weighed immediately before the on-hoof judging. Lambs must weigh between 85 and 130 pounds.
    7. Lambs must be completely slick shorn (no butt wool) within seven days of the contest.
    8. Lambs are subject to health rules. Lambs showing signs of testicle development or drug residue at slaughter will be disqualified.
    9. Lambs will be processed by Shriver Meats. Exhibitors will be responsible for selling their lamb.
    10. The rail score will reflect quality and yield grade.
    11. All ear tags must be removed.

WOOL SHOW
The wool show at the 1999 Great Frederick Fair is dedicated in memory of Florence B. Hall who gave so much to the sheep and wool industry in Frederick County and the State of Maryland.

   The wool show is presented to encourage the production of better wool and provide an opportunity for producers and the public to learn more about the qualities of wool.
    The exhibitor must own the sheep at the time of shearing. Fleece must have been shorn in current year. Fleeces to be judged on handspinning quality, must be skirted. Fleeces must be tied with paper twine, flesh side out, and tagged with number of months growth, breed and sex. Natural colored fleeces must have at least 35 percent colored fibers. A producer is eligible for no more than two awards in any one class. In any dispute the decision of the judge and superintendent shall be final.
    Pre-enter all fleeces on the standard livestock entry form. All fleeces must be delivered to Barn 28 on Saturday, Sept. 18 between 9 a.m.- noon. Judging will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18. An exhibitor may enter up to three fleeces at a charge of $5, with every three entries exhibitors will receive one Season Exhibitors' pass for fair admission. Fleeces will be released from noon - 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25.
