Julien P. Delphey
Board of Managers
Julien Delphey has always been interested in agriculture and the fairgrounds, even before he became a member of the Frederick County Agricultural Society more than 50 years ago. Mr. Delphey became a member of the Board of Managers in 1969. He served as president of the Frederick County Agricultural Society in 1982 and 1983. He is currently chairman of the Poultry and Machinery Row committees.
Although Mr. Delphey was not a farmer himself, he grew up with agriculture through both of his grandfathers. Through his family’s business, Mr. Delphey was involved with the fair as a commercial exhibitor.
Mr. Delphey’s father began promoting the motorcycle races held each year at the fairgrounds in 1924. Mr. Delphey himself also promoted the races until the Lions Club of Frederick took over in the 1970s.
As a member of the Board of Managers, Mr. Delphey founded both Old Fashioned Day and Antique Car Day held during The Great Frederick Fair.
Mr, Delphey served 12 years in the Maryland House of Delegates and was enlisted in the United States Army during WWII. He is a member of the Grange and the Frederick County Farm Bureau.
