W. Jerome Offutt

Counsel

In 1931, W. Jerome Offutt made his first visit to The Great Frederick Fair as a member of the Poolesville High School FFA Corn Judging Team. Since then he has become very involved in the fair, joining the Frederick County Agricultural Society in the 1960s. Mr. Offutt joined the Board of Managers as Counsel in 1971.

Mr. Offutt’s family was involved in agriculture – four brothers and a sister all farmed. He has a natural interest in the fair and its agricultural exhibits, and still serves as an official at the harness races held during fair week. In 1938, he began participating in the jousting tournaments under the title “Knight of St. John.”

Mr. Offutt has been practicing law in Frederick County for 62 years, serving as Frederick City Attorney for five years. He also served one term in the Maryland House of Delegates, becoming one of the youngest members of the General Assembly. He also served six years on the Frederick City Planning Commission, helping to design and implement “The Golden Mile.”
