GFF Introduces New Kind of Music at 141st Event

FREDERICK, Md. — All nine nights of the 141st Great Frederick Fair, "A Country Tradition in the Heart of the City," will feature entertainment in front of the grandstand come this September. Not only will the fair again offer one of the best lineups of country music, but also one of the hottest young talents in contemporary Christian music. The 2003 fair will be held September 12-20.

The fair kicks off on the first night, Friday, Sept. 12, with the crowning of the 2003-04 4-H Royalty, the announcement of the county’s new Farm Family of the Year, and the recognition of some of the county’s top students in the Character Counts Program. It all begins at 7 p.m. in front of the grandstand.

Musical entertainment starts in front of the grandstand at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, with Diamond Rio. Tickets are $25 for reserved track seats, $23 for reserved grandstand, and $18 for reserved general admission.

"The whole week from beginning to end is filled with great entertainment," said Dr. James McClellan, chairman of the fair's Entertainment Committee. "We are very fortunate to still be able to attract some of the biggest names in country music and for the first time to offer the top name in contemporary Christian music."

On Sunday, Sept. 14, the fair will feature Trick Pony. Tickets are $25 for reserved track seats, $23 for reserved grandstand, and $18 for reserved general admission.

The popular tractor and truck pull returns to the fair on Monday, Sept. 15, beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed on Tuesday with the popular Demolition Derby at 7 p.m. Tickets for both shows are $12 each.

The Rockin’ Roadhouse Tour consisting of Tracy Lawrence, Mark Chestnut and Joe Diffie, is set for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17. This show promises to be a top-selling event. Tickets are $25 for reserved track seats, $23 for reserved grandstand, and $18 for reserved general admission.

Top contemporary Christian performer Jaci Velasquez takes center stage at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18. Tickets are $22 for reserved track seats, $20 for reserved grandstand, and $16 for reserved general admission.

Popular country entertainers Darryl Worley and Rebecca Lynn Howard perform Friday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for reserved track seats, $23 for reserved grandstand, and $18 for reserved general admission.

The week ends with a bang on Saturday, Sept. 20, with Sammy Kershaw and Lorrie Morgan taking the stage at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for reserved track seats, $23 for reserved grandstand, and $18 for reserved general admission.
