Anthony and Alice Wilcom and son, Alan, own and operate Glade Creek Farms in Walkersville.
They began farming in 1961, milking 25 cows. The Wilcoms
built the herd to 225 cows and 50
replacement heifers. Today, Glade Creek Farm’s operation consists of 90 percent
grain production
and 10 percent livestock/horse. They raise 250 acres of corn, 300 acres of
soybeans and 100 acres of wheat.
Alan, the Wilcom’s son along with his wife and children, are
also involved with the farming operation.
Alan assists with management decisions along with maintenance on equipment, and
planting and harvesting of crops.
Anthony and Alice take pride in seeing the results of their
hard work, improving the conditions of the
land and hope to see the land remain open and used for agriculture for the next
generation.
The Wilcom’s are active in Frederick County Farm Bureau;
Southern States Cooperative, Inc.; Frederick County
Agricultural Society, Inc.; American Quarter Horse Association; and past members
of MD and VA Milk Producers
and Capitol Milk Producers. Alan currently serves as chairman of the Frederick
County Agriculture Preservation Board,
and Frederick County Farm Bureau Young Farmers.
Congratulations to all of Frederick County farm families, our
very own
Professional Food Producers, and especially to our past Farm Family of the Year
winners.
