RIDES, MIDWAY ATTRACTIONS COMING TO THE GREAT FREDERICK FAIR
Let your senses of fun and laughter come to life September 17-25 when The Great Frederick Fair’s midway opens to the public. New and exciting rides will join the traditional ones to provide patrons with all of the thrills and enjoyment they can handle.
On Wednesday, Sept. 22, Frederick’s Key 103.1, WAFY, The Great Frederick Fair and Reithoffer Shows, Inc. will offer a promotional "Carload Special"
at $40 per vehicle, excluding buses, to include parking in Lot D (off of Monocacy Boulevard), admission to the fair and unlimited rides for all passengers arriving in the same vehicle from 2 p.m. - close. This special offer is only available for those parking in Lot D and will not be honored in other parking areas."The Carload Special" was a big hit at the fair last year," said fair board President J.R. Ramsburg Jr., "and because it was so successful, we brought back for this year’s event."
Reithoffer Shows, Inc. will offer nearly 30 rides, in addition to games and other amusements, for fairgoers to enjoy during this year’s 142nd Great Frederick Fair.
Reithoffer Shows will honor five "Coke" Days at the fair, beginning on opening day Friday, Sept. 17 from 5 p.m. to close; Saturday, Sept. 18 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Tuesday, Sept. 21 from 2 p.m. to close; Thursday, Sept. 23 from 2 p.m. to close; and Saturday, Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Patrons bringing any Coca-cola product can to the carnival dropoff area will receive $2 off the $15 Pay One Price ride special. Wristbands will be honored until 5 p.m. on specified days; wristbands will not be sold after 3 p.m. on these specific days.
Coca Cola has teamed up with The Great Frederick Fair to promote this year's fair and special ride promotions. "This is really a fabulous working relationship the fair has with Coke and Reithoffer Shows to offer the special ride promotions," said Clyde Crum, chairman of the fair's carnival committee.
Discounted ride tickets can also be purchased on-line at www.thegreatfrederickfair.com. Pay One Price tickets are discounted by $2 if purchased on-line. Ticket packages, which include fair admission and ride tickets, are also available on-line.
Area businesses, corporations, organizations and those planning birthday parties and special events during the fair are encouraged to consider carnival and admission and parking discounts for groups of 50 or more. A sheet of ride coupons for group purchases of 50 is $9, while admission and parking would each be discounted $1.
Some of the major rides expected on the midway include the 180 foot Giant Dutch Wheel, the Zipper, the Orbitor, the Tornado and the Coaster.
The popular Kiddie Ride section will be a feature again at the fair this year. And because there is so much demand, Reithoffer Shows will extend the hours of the Kiddie Ride section to open to the public at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
As in years past, Reithoffer Shows will also offer special discount ride promotions through local convenience stores in the Frederick/Hagerstown area.
Activities at the fair begin at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, with the opening of Reithoffer's carnival and midway.
"The carnival attractions are always a special feature at our fair, and we are pleased to offer them again this year," Ramsburg added. "As always, we will take every possible precaution to ensure these attractions are safe for our visitors."
Before opening to the public, each ride and midway attraction will be inspected by the Maryland Amusement Ride Safety Unit. Maryland is one of 28 states in the U.S. that has an Amusement Ride Safety Inspection Program.
Before going on any ride, be sure to read the posted rules and observe age, height and weight restrictions. Be sure to follow the instructions of the ride operator. Keep hands, arms and legs inside the ride at all times. Be sure to use safety equipment such as a seat belt, shoulder harness, lap bar or chain when provided. And, stay in the ride until it comes to a complete stop.
