Why has the 2020 GFF been cancelled?
This decision was not made lightly. After months of research and considerations, it was not feasible or sensible to open as normal.
The Great Frederick Fair’s top priority is the health and safety of our guests, exhibitors and volunteers. The Fair has always been diligent in providing a safe environment with adequate hand washing stations and a clean facility. Many factors were considered including public health and safety, ever-changing guidelines from the federal, state and local officials, unknown attendance, financial feasibility, vendor and exhibitor participation.

Why couldn’t you have waited longer to make a decision?
Many factors go into producing the annual fair. The decision affects thousands of people including concessionaires, sponsors, exhibitors, volunteers, seasonal employees, contracted services, vendors and of course, the fairgoers.
The Fair was remaining cautiously optimistic but with the fluid COVID-19 pandemic, waiting any longer to make a decision would make things worse. Pushing the decision farther back would just limit potential accomplishments.

Did you consider social distancing, masks, sanitizer, etc.?
Our Board of Directors had been exploring every option to have The Great Frederick Fair. We worked with local and state health officials and took their advice. The additional required restrictions at this time would be result in a scaled back event. Having The Great Frederick Fair, even with modifications, poses a health risk that we are not willing to take.

Who decided to cancel the fair?
The Great Frederick Fair entrusts a Board of Directors to make decisions regarding the annual event. The Board met countless times and discussed possibilities for hours, coming to this conclusion.

What about the livestock animals?
The Great Frederick Fair is working with partners to create a youth invitational livestock show. Information regarding the show will be released ASAP. This show will be closed to the general public.

How can I still support the Fair?
The Great Frederick Fair is a non-profit organization and the losses surrounding the 2020 Great Frederick Fair cancellation are significant. The Fair will be in communication with our current sponsors and partners in regards to their support.

If you wish to make a donation, please email info@gffair.com

When will plans be released for the 2021 fair?
The 2021 Great Frederick Fair will take place September 17-25. We work year-round to plan our annual event. Updates will be posted on the Fair’s Facebook page and website.

What will happen with year-round rental, non-Fair events?
Each year, hundreds of events outside of the nine days of the Fair, are held at the Frederick Fairgrounds. These events will be allowed to continue as long as the client/promoter is able to meet the Fair’s Reopening Guidelines, which follow the guidance of local, state, and federal agencies. Cancellation or postponement decisions of these events will be made by the client or promoter, and updated on the Fair’s rental calendar. www.gffair.com/calendar

How can I ask additional questions?
If your question has not been answered above or you need something more specific, please email info@gffair.com and we will get back to you as soon possible.
